Robert Osband, at a science-fiction convention in Boston in the early 1970s, and the two men bonded over politically tinged stories. Better known as Cheshire Catalyst, Osband was a ham radio enthusiast and phreaker, a longtime contributor to the TAP newsletter who served as its final editor. At the TAP offices in New York, it was Osband who suggested they host regular gatherings on the first Friday of every month, a tradition that 2600 later continued in multiple cities. "We were always about sharing the knowledge," Osband said. "Share the knowledge and help people build things."
